Ok, I was new to the industry, sorry about that. Now I know it can take a lot of work to get ads out there, to compete with everyone else seemingly advertising the same thing as soon as it appears. Competing for top search engine listing and earning respect online.
Now I know it's not about the quick buck. We're in this for the long haul, looking for a regular income either performing internet marketing as a full-time job or as a means of additional money.

Affiliate id protection and more! Decode anybody?
What is an affiliate code? An affiliate code is the bit of text
added to the end of a web page address you are promoting that identifies you
as the person that referred the visitor to the web page and
identifies you as the person that should receive a commission for a
sale.
A typical affiliate link to a site may be http://www.screechy.com/?code.
The information after the ? question mark identifies your
affiliate id. This is the information that needs to be protected. Delete that
information and you lose your commission, that's how easy it can be.
I've tried using affiliate links in emails, hidden links on web
sites, using image and text links with some success but I couldn't
find any solution with which I was really happy. I had 15 years of
software development experience so I decided to create something
that did make me happy.
I wanted a solution that was easy to use and
works without the addition of a scripting language or programming
knowledge. I wanted the solution to be transparent to affiliate web
sites yet still protected my affiliate id code.
So is it simple to use? Yes it is... it's a two
stage process; first your enter the affiliate link you want to
encode and press button one and a new web page containing your
encoded affiliate link is created on your computer.
| Press button two and your protected web page is copied to your web site. Yes, step 2 does require you to have your own web site. |
| And new in version 3.0 not only is your protected web page created but other options allow you to set your page title and other HTML tags so search engines can better index your page! |
But not just protected web pages!
But wait... I don't always want a web page created, sometimes I just want to encode a link and add it to my existing web page manually. So, I added another way to encode links.
Does it make things too complicated? No, it's on a separate window that you never have to use if you don't want to. There are separate windows for encoding affiliate ids and encoding hyperlinks.
Then I had an additional thought. When I first started in internet marketing I included my email address on my website. That turned out to be a mistake. The email address was harvested at some stage and I've recently had to abandon it due to the amount of spam I had been receiving.
Perhaps I could encode email addresses as well? Yes, I could. Now I can place a hyperlink email address back on my website, users can click on the link and email me and read my address but my email address is encoded and not easily harvested.
The Encode Hyperlink window makes it easy to encode individual hyperlinks and email addresses and ensures the complicated HTML syntax is corrected created.
And now version 3.0 not only creates the correct syntax for normal links and email links it also includes support for FTP and more. |
And why not freestyle encoding?
But having worked with computers for a few years I wanted more. Sometimes I don't want to be limited to what I encode I want to encode manually. So I added that too.
The Encode window places no restrictions on what I encode, no syntax is changed it just does it. This window is designed for advanced users who need a quick encoder but don't want to be limited by the Encode Hyperlink window.
Decode hyperlinks
But how do I know if my hyperlink has encoded correctly? Well the first way is to visit the encoded web page I've created or click on the encoded hyperlink that I've added to my web page. But I wanted to really see the encoded hyperlink was what I thought it was.
You may have noticed on the diagram above the tab named 'Decode'? That does just what it sounds like. Give it an encoded hyperlink and it will decode it. And new in version 3.0 it also handles the non-encoded text like HTML tags that may be wrapped around encoded text.
Once again, you may never want to use that tab and don't have to. But, if you enter your encoded hyperlink and press one button the hyperlink is decoded and original hyperlink is displayed.
Web browsers
| But is it compatible with web browsers? Yes, Link and Affiliate Encode works with all web browsers I've tested including Firefox, Internet Explorer, Netscape, Opera and Safari.
How does it work?
| Well, I'm not going to tell you everything but simply hyperlinks are changed from something nice and simple to use to something that is very difficult to understand like this:
screechy.com
But when it's opened in a web browser or you click on a link the browser works out what it really is.
And to further hide things when you are protecting an affiliate link by encoding it the generated web page includes the hidden link on your site but shows the affiliate program page. It looks like the affiliate program is one your own site!
More than just encode links
Encode affiliate links to protect you from link hijacking and
bypassing |
Create web pages that you host on your web site and redirects to your
affiliate link |
Upload web page to your web site at the press of a button including
directory |
Encode email addresses that you can add to your web site protecting
you from email harvesting |
Encode other links allowing you to add an encoded link manually to
your web site |
Decode links allowing you to double check what your encoded link
really does |
Encode 'freestyle' so advanced users familiar with HTML can encode
exactly what they want |
Tested with Firefox, Internet
Explorer, Netscape and Opera |
Open the encoded web page directly from Link and Affiliate Encoder |
Basic and advanced modes allow point and click and manual encoding
options |
So, what's this going to cost me?
So by now you are wondering how much this is going to cost. How much are your sales worth to you? Ten dollars? Twenty dollars? How many sales do you miss each week? Each month? Each year? Five? Ten?
Miss five sales a month at ten dollars a piece and that's $600 you've lost in one year. For the price of three sales you can be protected.
